Add a Small Variable to Better Your Habits

Ever have a habit that feels boring?

This week, I upped the ante on my daily writing goal to explore if it would change how I write. Specifically, I posted once to the daily Sketchbook and once to Instagram.

The fascinating thing I learned was that when I wrote out my ideas in a succinct way for social media, it focused my thinking as well. It made the concepts clearer.

There’s a difference between writing and writing within a graphic format.

There’s nuance to how we read an IG Carousel, or a blog, or an email or a newsletter. There’s nuance to how we create those things as well.

If you’re working on a consistent goal right now, try adding a different variable to the mix.

  • Add some weight.

  • Change the time of day.

  • Vary the frequency.

  • Move the location.

It may give you greater insight into how to maintain that goal or how to adjust it so that it works better for you long term.

Recent Finds

  1. Simon Sinek — Solve Problems Through Service (YouTube) | A remarkable lesson from one of my favorite influencers. This brief video is a memorable reminder of how valuable serving others can be—not just for those we serve, but for ourselves as well.

  2. The Minimalists — The Most Important Activity (IG Reel) | This one really stopped me in my tracks. “By its very essence, whatever you’re doing right now is the most important thing to you.” The power of where you focus your energy is key and I highly recommend you check out this IG Reel. So good.

That's all for now.
